Wind gusts were reported to reach up to 66 mph. These harsh winds caused a lot of destruction, destroying 13 lifeguard stands, wrecking six beach patrol boats, and ripped the roof off a motel in Ocean City on Sunday.
Beach Patrol Chief Thomas Mullineaux reported that some of the lifeguard stands, which weigh more than 100 pounds each, were sent rolling down the beach for a half-block. Meteorologist Greg Heavener told the newspaper the storm occurred due to a microburst that slammed into the ground and spread out in all directions. Luckily, there were no injuries reported to officials.
