According to The Times of Trenton, as floodwaters lessen in parts of Mercer County, the severe damage caused is adding up. In Trenton’s Ferry Street neighborhood, a surge of water that rushed through caused a house to collapse, and other buildings remain empty while their structural soundness is checked.

In Lambertville, a mysterious flow of water on Saturday night swept cars and debris down Swan Street, filling basements and wrecking a firehouse, leaving residents and businesspeople with a big mess. Residents won’t be allowed to re-enter homes until they are deemed safe.

“We have to go through a whole myriad of inspections before these houses are inhabitable,” said Trenton Fire Department Battalion Chief Peter Fiabane. He said the flood-scarred neighborhood was only one piece of the havoc wreaked on the city.

Hightstown residents are being advised to limit shower and toilet use due to damaged and overexerted pumps at the wastewater plant. Its major pumps are being rebuilt at Hights Electric Motor Service, plant superintendent Bill Searing said.

Jersey Central Power & Light reported 145 customers in Lambertville were still without power yesterday afternoon, with the number reduced to 70 by early evening. PSE&G said that the storm is the worst in the company’s history in terms of power outages.
